The Antigo Gridiron Club meeting was called to order by Don Strobel at 6:30.   The meeting was held at the building at Schofield Stadium.

FINANCIAL REPORT:  Joanie Bauknecht reported on income and expenses since the last meeting, and showed balances in accounts.

OVERVIEW ON FUNDRAISERS:  Joanie and Jean stressed to the members that the 4 main fundraisers that we have, 1)50/50 2) Calendar 3) Membership 4) and End Zone Signs, support the  teams each year, and we need to keep these going.  These generate enough funds (along with some other donations) to sustain the teams needs year to year, along with helping with the Dave Brandt League.  The Gridiron Club is doing well financially, however one big ticket item could easily wipe out the savings.   There are several big ticket items that could be happening in the next few years. Luann Barske is heading up the 50/50 this year, Jeff Lund is spearheading the Calendar ads, Jean and Joanie will continue to head up membership, and will get more people involved in helping with that as we go along.   Jean will also take care of end zone signs for now.

MEET THE ROBINS:  Don and Dawn Lewis have agreed to head up the “Meet the Robins” community event this year.  It is scheduled for Thursday, August 19.  It is the day before the Robins scrimmage at Wausau West.

SCRIMMAGE:  Nick Sanchez volunteered to order lunch & water for the teams for the scrimmage and have it in coolers and ready to go at the high school on Friday, August 20.  We will also be sending Gatorade for the team, count of 60.  This is paid for by the Gridiron Club.

DAVE BRANDT LEAGUE:  There was a discussion about informing parents from the Dave Brandt League on what the Gridiron club does, and getting them involved earlier.  Rick LeBrun of Culvers offered to donate the cost of having 250 more Gridiron Membership Brochures made to hand out to them on Tuesday.  Culver’s is also donating ice cream for the Meet the Robins event.

OFFICERS AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS:  Holly Anderson was voted in as Vice President and Nick Sanchez as Secretary.  The President position will be discussed at the next meeting.

UTILITY VEHICLE:  Matt Shinners presented information regarding possible purchase of a utility vehicle (example: JD Gator) to be used by football & track programs.  Idea started in response to Ed Vavruska asking how the club would spend the $2,000 he has donated over the past year.  Matt discussed with Coach Lund and he suggested that there would be a use for such a vehicle but that he was not saying that it is an urgent need.  Matt discussed with Tim Prunty of the school district and he said the district would have use for such a vehicle also and that he would check on options and pricing around town.  The district would own and maintain the vehicle.  Tim also said the district could pitch in a little towards purchase.  Jim Alfonso told Coach Lund that the track program could provide $1,500.  Local JD dealer offered discounted price of approximately $6,000.  With Ed’s $2,000 (in club account), track’s $1,500, and district’s $500 that leaves $2,000 needed for purchase.  Ron Maly offered to approach JD dealer and see if he can negotiate a lower price.  Brad Henricks made motion to spend up to $4,000 of club funds including the $2,000 Ed donated to assist in purchase of this vehicle.  2nd by Don Lewis.  Discussion followed regarding checking with other local vendors on similar vehicles.  Matt said he will discuss with Tim and make sure all local vendors are given opportunity.  Motion passed unaniomously.

PARENT COMMITTEE:  Because of the changes in leadership, several letters were sent out to parents asking for their help, that we needed to get people involved if the Gridiron is to remain successful. Lists of activities that the Gridiron does and need help with were also circulated. We had one of the best turnouts ever!   Several people who couldn’t make it to the meeting emailed that they will help.

NEXT MEETING:  Next meeting is Tuesday September 14, 6:30 at the Hudson Street Shelter.
